New Delivery Box Regulations for Motorbike Deliveries in Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has introduced new regulations concerning delivery box specifications for motorbike deliveries. These rules aim to enhance safety, efficiency, and compliance across the delivery industry. Companies employing motorcycle riders for deliveries must adhere to these guidelines to avoid penalties and ensure safe operations.

Delivery Box Specifications

The new guidelines require that any delivery box used on a motorbike must adhere to the following specifications:

  • Dimensions: The box must not exceed 50 cm in length, width, or height. This ensures the box does not hinder the driver’s side view and maintains vehicle balance.

  • Materials: The delivery box must be made of materials other than wood or metal to avoid sharp edges. All corners must be covered with reflective phosphorescent tape.

  • Design: The box must have rounded edges to reduce injury risks and should not extend beyond the motorbike’s frame. It must be securely attached to the rear of the motorbike.

  • Visibility: The company’s name or service provider’s name should be displayed on the back of the box, adhering to RTA-approved advertisement guidelines.

  • Maintenance: Boxes must be replaced every two years to ensure they meet all safety standards and specifications.

  • Food Safety Compliance: In the event of food delivery, the box must comply with Dubai Municipality’s food safety requirements.

Penalties

Companies failing to comply with these regulations will face fines of up to Dh500 per vehicle for non-compliance with the technical requirements. Additionally, improperly mounted or unsafe delivery boxes will result in fines and potential suspension of the establishment’s permit.

These new rules reflect Dubai’s commitment to improving road safety and delivery efficiency. By ensuring delivery boxes are safe and standardized, the RTA aims to protect both riders and the general public while maintaining the high standards expected within the city’s bustling delivery industry.
